Supreme Judicial Court Hosts Event to Celebrate Solved Mystery of Unknown Justice

At an event at the John Adams Courthouse, Supreme Judicial Court Chief Justice Ralph D. Gants welcomed members of the public who helped identify the mystery of the unknown justice as the Honorable Lemuel Shaw, where they were invited to view the portrait and the attachment of the name plate to the portrait frame. A direct descendant of Lemuel Shaw who reached out to the court after learning about the identity of the justice in the portrait also attended the event. Read Full Article

Court and State Leaders Attend Chelsea Drug Court Graduation and Certification Ceremony

At a ceremony today at Chelsea District Court, Supreme Judicial Court Justice David A. Lowy, Trial Court Chief Justice Paula M. Carey, Co-Chair of the Joint Committee on the Judiciary State Representative Claire D. Cronin, District Court Chief Justice Paul C. Dawley, Chelsea District Court First Justice Matthew J. Governor Weighs Criminal Justice Reform Bill

After much debate the Legislature has enacted a wide ranging criminal justice reform act that would change many policies and procedures of the trial and sentencing process for adults and juvenile defendants. Governor Charlie Baker can now sign the bill or send it back for changes. Read Full Article
