SUPERIOR COURT SEEK LAW CLERKS FOR WESTERN MASSACHUSETTS

The Massachusetts Superior Court seeks to fill two Law Clerk positions to be based in Springfield, and primarily serving the western counties of Hampden, Hampshire, Franklin, and Berkshire. The Law Clerk position is responsible for performing legal research and writing assignments to assist the Justices of the Superior Court for a one-year term. Read Full Article

Widow’s Share Negates Estate Plan

On January 8 the Supreme Judicial Court ruled in Ciani v. Macgrath that a widow whose late husband’s will left all his property to his children from his first marriage has the right, under General Law chapter 191, section 15, to claim one third of his estate and a life estate in his real property. Molasses Flood Centennial Approaching

January 15 will mark the one hundredth anniversary of the strangest disaster in the history of Boston. The 1919 Molasses Flood occurred when a huge holding tank in the North End exploded, sending out a wave of liquid that caused deaths and injuries, as well as millions of dollars in property damage. Airbnb Law Okayed

On December 28 Governor Charlie Baker approved a new law that will tax and regulate short-term house and apartment rentals. Municipal leaders are happy with the new controls the law gives cities and towns but companies such as Airbnb call it a “flawed measure.” Read Full Article
