Copyright Restrictions

The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be "used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research." If a Library Patron makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of "fair use" (as defined by United States copyright law), that Patron may be liable for copyright infringement. The Social Law Library reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law. By submitting your request, you agree to comply with the copyright restrictions stated above.

What is a rush order?
When you choose "rush" the Document Delivery staff will move your order to the top of the work list. Rush orders that are less than 100 pages are generally completed in less than one hour during regular business hours.

What does this cost?
The Social Law Library charges members $10.00 per rush order. Non-members are charged $25.00 for this service.
What do you mean by securing copyright?
The Social Law Library's Document Delivery Office can secure right to use many of the documents in our collection. By working directly with the Copyright Clearance Center we can secure and pass along the rights to use published material.
The Social Law Library will assume that the material is being used for general business use unless you note otherwise on your order.

What does this cost?
The Social Law Library charges members $4.00 per citation that is checked for copyright plus the actual copyright charges. The charge for non-members is $6.00 per citation plus the actual copyright charges. You will receive notification via e-mail (usually within twenty-four hours of your copyright's status.)
