Mr. Courtney is a lawyer, librarian, and nationally-recognized expert in copyright and information policy, with extensive experience at the intersection of law, libraries, and education. He most recently served as Director of Copyright and Information Policy for the Harvard Library, where he provided strategic leadership on intellectual property, licensing, privacy, and digital access rights for Harvard University.
His earlier experience includes managing faculty research and scholarship at the Harvard Law School Library, as well as teaching roles at Northeastern University’s Khoury College of Computer Sciences and School of Law, where he has taught courses on cyberlaw, privacy, and legal writing.
Mr. Courtney is widely-published and is frequently sought after as a speaker on topics such as copyright, fair use, licensing reform, and the legal challenges of emerging technologies. His scholarship includes contributions to leading journals, books, and policy papers. A recognized leader in the field, Mr. Courtney has received numerous honors, including the IP3 Award for Intellectual Property and the Public Access to Government Information Award.

Lori is responsible for the financial and human resources operations at Social Law. She sits on the Library’s Management Committee. Prior to joining the Library, Lori had similar responsibilities at a regional employment agency for 13 years and was an internal accounting staff member within the WGBH Educational Foundation for 10 years.
Lori holds a Bachelors of Accountancy degree from Bentley University and an MBA from Suffolk University.
Prior to assuming “Emeritus” status, Robert served as Executive Director of the Social Law Library between November, 1998 and March, 2026. Before that he had been the Library’s Director of Special Projects between 1975 and 1984. Between those stints at Social Law, he served as the Executive Director of the Flaschner Judicial Institute, a not-for-profit judges organization dedicated to the professional development and continuing education of the Massachusetts judiciary. Currently, he is a Trustee and the Director of the Supreme Judicial Court Historical Society. Robert received his undergraduate degree from Boston University and law degree from Northeastern University School of Law.

She oversees the selection, acquisition, and maintenance of Library materials and resources. Elaine has been with the Library since 1988, and her experience covers a wide range of responsibilities, including looseleaf filing; interviewing, hiring and training new staff; building good working relationships with vendors and publisher representatives; contract negotiation; payment review and approval; and budgetary analysis and projection. She sits on the Library’s Management Committee.

She assists members with research both in print and online and provides library instruction and training. She is always happy to chat and walk you through a database or research request, but if time is of the essence she can track down the materials that you need quickly and efficiently.
Jessica earned a B.A. in History and Anthropology from the University of Florida and a J.D. from Boston College Law School. She was admitted to the Massachusetts Bar and joined the Social Law Library’s Reference team in 2013, and is a member of Law Librarians of New England and the Association of Boston Law Librarians.

She has been with the library since 2017. She is active in the Association of Boston Law Librarians, and is the Vice President and Chair of the Standing Committee on Technology.
Madison earned a B.A. in Government from Suffolk University and her M.L.I.S from Simmons College’s Graduate School of Library and Information Science.
Genevieve works partly in Technical Services assisting with cataloging and collection development, and partly in Circulation where she also does interlibrary loan.

Stan has worked as a cataloger at Social Law for over 36 years. He has also assisted member firms with the cataloging of their collections both print and electronic.
