Residential Landlord Tenant Law is both complex and evolving. As a basic primer for new attorneys and a “nuts and bolts” review for more experienced attorneys, this four-hour Zoom program presented by experienced judges over two days will focus on procedural and substantive issues of residential summary process practice including significant changes to Massachusetts housing law. The following topics will be covered:

- Types of tenancies (and other forms of occupancy)
- Termination of tenancies
- Waiver, reservation of rights and right to cure
- Discrimination/reasonable accommodation/domestic violence
- Landlord possession claim
Day Two: April 2, 2025 (4 pm to 6 pm)
- Summary process defenses, affirmative defenses and counterclaims
- G.L. c. 239, § 8A damages calculation
- Interim pretrial rent and use & occupancy orders, appeals and post-trial appeal bonds
- Public housing/subsidized housing
- Questions and discussion
