To effectuate the Supreme Judicial Court’s March 17, 2020 “Order Limiting In-Person Appearances in State Courthouses to Emergency Matters that Cannot be Resolved Through a Videoconference or Telephonic Hearing,” the Social Law Library will be closed to all visitors, including dues paying-members and governmental users from March 18, 2020 through at least April 6, 2020.

The Library will continue to restrict its hours to 8 am to 4:30 pm and only Reference Attorneys and other employees who must be on site will be working on the premises. All other employees will be working from home.

Copy Center, Circulation, and Interlibrary Loan will have limited staff and can be reached at 617-226-1500 or If Library members need an item from the collection, the staff can retrieve it and, when permitted by copyright, fax or PDF it.  As part of the Social Law Library’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Copy Center fees (up to $50 per order) will be waived from March 16, 2020 through at least April 6, 2020 for the Library’s private and public members. By agreement with Courthouse Security, if information cannot be electronically delivered, essential books and other items can be safely picked up and returned inside the main entrance to the John Adams Courthouse or can be mailed to your office or home.
