The Massachusetts Superior Court seeks to fill two Law Clerk positions to be based in Springfield, and primarily serving the western counties of Hampden, Hampshire, Franklin, and Berkshire. The Law Clerk position is responsible for performing legal research and writing assignments to assist the Justices of the Superior Court for a one-year term. Start date will be as soon as possible, subject to the availability of the successful candidates. The position operates under the guidance and supervision of the Chief Justice, eighty-one Associate Justices, and the Manager of Legal Research Services. Law clerks will work alongside permanent Research Attorneys who also assist the judges. Duties of the position encompass every aspect of court procedure and all the legal issues within the Superior Court’s civil and criminal jurisdiction. A reliable car and the willingness and ability to travel to courthouses throughout the Commonwealth are requirements of the position. There may be an opportunity to apply for an additional one-year clerkship term and/or promotion to a permanent Research Attorney position.
The Law Clerk position will serve a one-year term at a salary of $62,662.46. Employee benefits include subsidized health, dental, and vision insurance, ten days of paid vacation time, and three days of paid personal time. Law clerks must reside in Massachusetts during the duration of their clerkship. Application deadline is January 27, 2019.
