Supreme Judicial Court Chief Justice Ralph D. Gants to Speak at Event Announcing 2018 - 2019 Pro Bono Fellows
WHAT: On Thursday, October 11, Supreme Judicial Court Chief Justice Ralph D. Gants will speak at the seventh annual Access to Justice Fellows event at the John Adams Courthouse, hosted by the Massachusetts Access to Justice Commission and the Lawyers Clearinghouse. Chief Justice Gants is co-chair of the Massachusetts Access to Justice Commission.
The Access to Justice Fellows Program, a project of the Massachusetts Access to Justice Commission and the Lawyers Clearinghouse, provides senior lawyers and retired judges the opportunity to work on year-long pro bono legal projects that benefit people in need in communities across the state.
Access to Justice Fellow Hon. Patricia E. Bernstein (ret.) will speak at the event to give her perspective on the program as a 2017-2018 fellow. As part of her fellowship she worked as a mentor at Justice Bridge, a law incubator for recent law school graduates who are representing clients with limited budgets. Rosalyn Garbose Nasdor, Director and Pro Bono Counsel at Ropes & Gray LLP, Lawyers Clearinghouse Director, and Access to Justice Fellows Program Committee Chair will also deliver remarks at the event.
Founded in 2012 with an initial class of seven fellows, the program has now enrolled a total of 113 Access to Justice Fellows who have provided thousands of hours of pro bono service to 70 partner organizations. The program continues to support all Access to Justice Fellows as they do engaging pro bono work, remain active members of the legal community, and help people and groups in need.
