WHAT:
The Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court will host fourteen students from seven high schools across the Commonwealth as part of Student Government Day activities on Friday, April 6th.
The day will begin with activities at the State House, where students will learn about the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial Branches of government. Appeals Court Associate Justice William J. Meade will address the students on behalf of the Judicial Branch.
The students will then spend the afternoon at the John Adams Courthouse where they will learn about the state judiciary and the appellate process from Appeals Court Associate Justice Sydney Hanlon; Supreme Judicial Court Clerk for the Commonwealth Francis V. Kenneally; and Supreme Judicial Court Clerk for Suffolk County Maura S. Doyle. Cliff Allen, Supreme Judicial Court Director of Education and Public Programs, will then lead the students on a tour of the courthouse. Finally, the students will have lunch with Supreme Judicial Court Law Clerks, who are assigned to work with the Justices.
The students who are participating were elected by their classmates to represent them at the State House and the Supreme Judicial Court. Two students from each of the seven schools below will be hosted by the Supreme Judicial Court:
