Mark “The Bird “Fidrych” delighted baseball fans with his 1976 Rookie of the Year season pitching  for the Detroit Tigers. Knee and shoulder injuries shortened his career and he settled down  as a farmer in Northborough, Massachusetts. His life ended while he was working under his dump truck in 2009. His widow sued two companies that built the truck and accessories for failure to warn adequately  of the dangers of moving parts that caught Fidrych’s clothing while he was on his back. On November 27 the Appeals Court upheld a Superior Court judgment in favor of the defendants, Mack Trucks and Parker Hannifin.
