In recognition of Law Day 2017, students across the Commonwealth will participate in educational activities about the Rule of Law and the judicial branch of government. Students will have an opportunity to interact with judges, lawyers, law clerks and other court officials.
This year’s Law Day theme, the Fourteenth Amendment, reshaped American law and society, in particular its impact on civil rights, due process, and equal protection under the law for all Americans.
Law Day was established by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1958 as a day to recognize the principles of government under the law, and the nation’s heritage of liberty and justice.

Speakers will include Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan, Middlesex Sheriff Peter Koutoujian, and Attorney Natashia Tidwell, who will talk about the Fourteenth Amendment. The day ends with a presentation of awards: The Judge Campion Award for community service, the Judge Healy Award for Veterans’ Services, and the Judge Greco Awards for a high school writing competition on the theme of the Fourteenth Amendment.
