Supreme Judicial Court Chief Justice Ralph D. Gants to Speak at Annual Walk to the Hill Event at Massachusetts State House
WHAT:
Supreme Judicial Court Chief Justice Ralph D. Gants will deliver remarks at the annual Walk to the Hill, an event that highlights the continued need for state funding of programs that provide civil legal aid to low income Massachusetts residents in need.
Organized by the Equal Justice Coalition, the event will call for funding for the Massachusetts Legal Assistance Corporation, the largest funding source for legal aid programs in the state. In addition to SJC Chief Justice Ralph Gants, speakers will include: Equal Justice Coalition Chair Louis Tompros; Massachusetts Bar Association President Jeff Catalano; Boston Bar Association President Carol A. Starkey; and a client who will tell his civil legal aid story.
Civil legal aid plays an important role in ensuring equal access to justice in Massachusetts. Following the speaking portion of the event, those in attendance will visit their elected state legislators to encourage them to continue to provide funding for civil legal aid in the Fiscal Year 2018 state budget.
