One April 26,2016 the Library, through the generosity of the William P. Homans, Jr. Endowment and the Supreme Judicial Court Historical Society, welcomed Professor Adam Beneforado of Drexel University to speak about his recent book “UNfair: The New Science of Criminal Injustice.” Professor Benforado presented the audience with five myths that are common when discussing the American judicial system. Through a discussion of these myths, Professor Benforado exposed some of the most troubling issues plaguing the system. Using data collected through social science studies, the professor attempted to expose the problems in an effort to start a conversation that could then lead to change.
UNfair “succinctly and persuasively recounts cutting-edge research testifying to the faulty and inaccurate procedures that underpin virtually all aspects of our criminal justice system," according to the Boston Globe.
The Library would like to thank Professor Adam Benforado, the patrons in attendance, the Supreme Court Historical Society, and the William P. Homans, Jr. Endowment for making this event possible.
