WHAT:
On April 3, Trial Court Chief Justice Paula M. Carey, Trial Court Administrator Harry Spence, Greenfield Register of Probate John Merrigan, Northwestern District Attorney David E. Sullivan and Franklin County Sheriff Christopher Donelan will speak at the event at the Court Service Center located in the Franklin County Courthouse in Greenfield. Massachusetts State Senate President Stanley Rosenberg will also participate.
The "Court in the Community" event will showcase the services that the recently opened Court Service Center offers to the public, as well as the Franklin County Court’s other programs, initiatives, and innovations that provide local residents with greater access to justice and helps address needs in the community. Court Service Center Manager Kate Shapiro, as well as Opioid Task Force representatives Dr. Ruth Potee and Marisa Hebble, will address the community-court collaboration that is working to address the increasing problem of opiate addiction in the western part of the state.
Judges from the western part of the state will speak about departmental court innovation programs, including: Greenfield District Court Judge William F. Mazanec III; Franklin Probate and Family Court Judge Beth Crawford; Orange District Court Judge David Ross; Superior Court Judge Mary Lou Rup; and Western Division Housing Court Judge Dina Fein.
Since it opened in May 2014, the Greenfield Court Service Center has helped 1,150 people better understand and navigate the court system. The Center offers online and in-person resources to the general public and attorneys, including individual assistance with preparing pleadings, court forms and documents, access to public computers and workstations, and interpreter services. The Center also includes on-site law librarians who can help with legal research, and helps connect residents to community resources, legal assistance programs, and social service agencies.
